Echunga ‘New Rush Hill’ Coloured Diamond Earrings

The Echunga Collection features natural coloured diamond designs inspired by the colours and shapes of the original stones discovered in the Echunga Goldfields, nestled in the leafy Adelaide Hills town of the same name.  The Echunga Collection of jewellery is deeply connected to the town’s local folklore, history and the very essence of Australian natural beauty. The New Rush Hill earrings, named after a gold digging site in the Chapel Hill goldfields, feature an articulated drop design with a palette of rich golden and pastel tones. The diamonds in each Echunga design are carefully arranged to achieve harmonious balance.

Each natural diamond in the Echunga design is described as a “flavour”—a playful way to capture the variety of colours that make each diamond unique. The flavours of this design are Pink Lemonade, Liquorice, Pistachio, Mango and Vanilla Bean. While “flavours” is not a technical diamond term, we find it a fun and helpful way to express the beauty and complexity of these natural fancy gems.

The Echunga Collection:

Echunga is an exclusive collection of jewellery by Gerard McCabe inspired by the mystery and folklore of the rare Echunga diamonds.

Discovered at Echunga in the picturesque Adelaide Hills during the gold rush of the late 1800s, the true source of the original diamonds remains unknown to this day. Gerard McCabe appraised the original diamonds in 1994 for the South Australian Museum, which sparked the idea for this unique collection. The origin of the Echunga diamonds remains a mystery, as there are no known Kimberlite pipes (required for the formation of mined diamonds) in the Adelaide Hills.

Every design in the Echunga collection is unique. Each arrangement of diamonds is carefully sourced and curated by our team of designers, and no two arrangements are alike. Using only the finest natural diamonds, Echunga designs include luxurious statement pieces as well as jewellery for everyday wear. The colours found in each piece are described as a “flavour”, with each combination of flavours being completely unique. While flavours aren’t a technical diamond term, they speak to the exciting and playful spirit of their origin story.
